Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi. The birch wood used for this came from a fungus infected fallen tree. After drying the wood the fungus also died, leaving only the spalting coloration behind. Combined with a recycled skateboard this beautiful piece of birch created the Spalt design.
